Wedding Star
Killbuck Creek Quilts
90" x 118"
You know you're addicted to quilting when your only son informs you that he is engaged and your first thought is, Oh good, a chance to make a really spectacular quilt! I saw this pattern in a magazine entitled 'Great American Quilts'. Since I am something of a star nut I started on it almost immediately. It is a scrap quilt (a great excuse to build up the old fabric stash) consisting of 20 stars with bias scallops around each star point and around the border, which I enlarged from the original pattern. Each star has 288 one inch diamonds (5,760 in all), which I pieced by hand, and contains fabric unique to that star and used nowhere else in the quilt. The entire thing was hand-quilted and took almost three years to finish (the border alone took a year, see close up below).
Tony's Wedding Star has taken first or best of show in every quilt show that it's been entered.  You wouldn't believe how much I've been offered for it!

We refused :)
