You know you're addicted to quilting when your only son informs you that he is engaged and your first thought is, Oh good, a chance to make a really spectacular quilt! I saw this pattern in a magazine entitled 'Great American Quilts'. Since I am something of a star nut I started on it almost immediately. It is a scrap quilt (a great excuse to build up the old fabric stash) consisting of 20 stars with bias scallops around each star point and around the border, which I enlarged from the original pattern. Each star has 288 one inch diamonds (5,760 in all), which I pieced by hand, and contains fabric unique to that star and used nowhere else in the quilt. The entire thing was hand-quilted and took almost three years to finish (the border alone took a year, see close up below). |
